The Abia North Senatorial candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the just concluded general elections Ambassador Osita Offor popularly known as De Ultimate Commander, has posited that Abia State Governor-Elect Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, needs to give youth and sport development proper attention if he desires to eradicate crime and criminality in Abia State.
The Undefeated World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion who interacted with some journalist at the Enugu Airport on his way to Abuja, revealed that most of the people involved in crime are youths and that unemployment is the main reason why most of them are into criminality.
Offor, emphasized that youth development projects and sports are some of the key ways to engage the youths and reduce criminality to minimum.
“I have been involved in so many youth projects, I was involved in finding solution to the Niger Delta Militants issues between 2007 and 2010 when late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua was in power. Immediately we applied the amnesty programme which involved oversea trainings, scholarship and other ideas the attacks on Nigerian oil infrastructure reduced by 80%”
“Sports is a big industry on its own, sports have created job opportunity for millions of youths, sports have taken thousands of youths out of the street and out of crime, sports have equally turned so many youths into wealthy people. All the incoming government needs to do, is to invest strategically into sports and create the enabling environment for investors to come in by integrating sporting activities into educational classes while reviewing and building modern facilities across the LGA’S and reawakening and rekindling the spirit of sports as a way of healthy living for everyone”
“All over the world they know about Ultimate Commander and many investors from overseas have confidence, trust in my capacity. I am a creation of sports and I know we have so many hidden talents in Abia State who will excel in different sports globally”
“For youth empowerment and wealth creation, the incoming government can tap into ICT, create ICT hubs, invest in ICT entrepreneurship partnership schemes. This format will put Abia State in the map for ICT services and the partnership will rack in millions in dollars both for the state and the partners. The government can equally train the youths on other skills that can take them away from the street and from crime”
Osita Offor concluded by stating that he trusts the Governor-elect and he believes so much that Otti will change the trajectory of Abia State positively.
