Anosike Pledges to Complete Abandoned Abia NUJ Secretariat Within 100 Days If Elected

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Abia State for the 2027 election, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, has pledged to complete the abandoned secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, within his first 100 days in office if elected governor.

Anosike made the pledge on Thursday, September 3, 2026, while speaking at the monthly congress of the Abia NUJ, where he engaged with journalists on his vision for the state.

The PDP candidate said journalists deserve a conducive and comfortable environment from which to carry out their professional responsibilities, stressing the importance of providing media practitioners with a befitting secretariat.

According to him, newsmen need a place where they can be comfortable while performing their duties of informing the public and holding government accountable.

Anosike therefore promised that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would prioritise the completion and commissioning of the abandoned NUJ secretariat within the first 100 days of his administration.

He said the commitment was part of his broader philosophy of people-centred governance, noting that government must pay attention to institutions and professionals whose work contributes to the development of society.

The PDP governorship candidate also reiterated his belief that the media should be regarded as a critical stakeholder and partner in democratic governance rather than merely as a campaign instrument for politicians.

He stressed that journalists play an important role in keeping the government accountable and ensuring that the concerns and welfare of citizens remain at the centre of governance.

Anosike’s pledge comes as political activities intensify in Abia ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with candidates and political parties engaging various sectors and stakeholders across the state.
