The member representing Ohafia South state constituency
in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke has lamented the perinnial scarcity of water in Asaga Ohafia, calling on the state government to come to the rescue of the community.

Nwoke said this while inaugurating and  handing over a multi-million naira civic centre built by Bianko Age Grade as their traditional retirement project to the community in Ohafia local government.

He regretted that past individuals, groups, and collective efforts to address the challenge, which he maintained was worsening annually proved abortive due to the huge financial involvement.

“Today, our joy is that we are appealing to a humane administration led by Dr. Alex Otti and we are hopeful that in no distant time this challenge among others confronting the community will end.”

“On my part, I will continue to add value to the communities in particular and offer quality representation to the constituency in general,” the chairman of the House committee on environment and urban renewal added.

Earlier in his address, the Eziego in council of the community, His Royal Highness Oba Uka, commended the age grade for embarking on and completing the project successfully within record time.

While noting that most of the public infrastructure in the community were provided by age grades, he appealed to the local, state and federal governments to factor the community into their development agenda.

According to the leader of the age grade, Chief Sam Ukwueni, the event marked the begining of the final stages of their traditional retirement and extolled the members for their commitment to the completion of the project.

In his remarks, the national president of the age grade,  Chidi Uma Obasi, Esq. noted with gratitude to God and the members that the project was completed “even in the face of high inflation in the country”.

Similarly, the national patron of the age grade, Chief Kalu Eziyi, expressed happiness that the age grade, which was formed 43 years ago,  had come of age and wished the members many more fruitful years ahead.
