Ofuji celebrates 3rd edition of Iriji in Igbere, calls preservation of Igbo culture

 

The chairman, CEO, CAADES Group & Founder Ofuji movement Dr Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has called for the presentation of the Igbo culture through effective teaching and learning at all levels of education.

Dr Anyaso who when hosted 2024 edition of “Iriji ofuji” celebration of new yam festival in Igbere Bende Local Government on Sunday
harped on the need for the cultural heritage of the Igbo nation to be transferred to the younger generation through educational curriculum.

The convener who was represented by chairman of the occasion Ezeogo Emeka Onuoha, disclosed that It was pertinent to pass on the Iri Iji culture to the young generation, so as to ensure the presentation of our customs and values.

He said, “By teaching the youth about our rich history, we are ensuring that our culture continues to thrive and evolve.

“The younger ones should also know that without celebration, nobody will know the importance of our culture and without coming together, our children will not know the significance of our culture. They will not be aware of why we do things or live the way we do.

“Just as yam is prominently known as the chief of crop worth celebrating yearly in igboland, so ofuji the name with which many of you address me by, is not just another name, but a reminder for us to share whatever portion we have with others in love and show gratitude to God for his blessings.

“Ofuji symbolizes community, unity and generosity, the Igbo values that we should all strive to embody in our lives; the onye aghala nwanne ya” which translates essentially as no one should be left behind or leave no one behind.

“As we will see at this event today, we will continue to share the portions God has given to us and we will continue to live this way.As we are witnessing the joy and festivities that this year’s event brings, I hope and pray that God enables us to continue to promote and preserve our unique Igbo culture for generations to come”.

Pupils from the Ahuoma Anyaso Education Foundation, a tuition free built by Ofuji entertained guests with Igbo culture presentations.

The high point of the celebration was the ceremonial cutting of the new yam and distribution of food item such as rich, yam and noddles to autonomous communities in Igbere.
