Jigawa farmers raise alarm over extortion by fraudulent agents
All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN in Jigawa has raised concerns over alleged fraudulent extortion from farmers across the state
The association raised the alarm in a press statement signed by the AFAN state chairman, Auwal Garba Ibrahim, who vowed to ensure the fraudsters face the full weight of the law.
He said the association uncovered how fraudsters go around the state, impersonating its leaders and collecting money from farmers in the name of registration for special Agricultural Intervention.
Ibrahim warned farmers that the purported registration was fake and non-existent, advising farmers to report the suspects to any security agency.
He noted that the activities of such fraudsters are capable of creating mistrust between farmers and their leaders which is tantamount to undermining the Jigawa and federal government policy on agriculture.
“We want to make it clear that the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Jigawa State Chapter has no such practice, and we do not charge farmers for any of our services or support programs by the Federal or State Government or any organization.
“We strongly condemn this illegal, inhuman and unethical behaviour. The syndicate involved in this extortion scheme are not legitimate leaders/agents of our association in any capacity.
“We urge farmers and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to local authorities and our office.”
