Widow’s Agony: Family’s Cruel Grasp for Late Eze’s Fortune Leaves Ugoeze Ajiri Devastated
The grief of widowhood has been compounded by unimaginable torment for Ugoeze Chinwe Ajiri, the wife of the late Eze Professor Samuel Ajiri. Accusations, arrests, and a relentless pursuit of her late husband’s property by his own family have plunged her into a nightmare, exposing a chilling tale of greed and betrayal.
Professor Ajiri, a respected Eze, suffered a stroke allegedly triggered by the relentless frustrations inflicted upon him by his siblings. Sources close to the family reveal he was abandoned by them during his illness, leaving Ugoeze Ajiri to tirelessly care for him until his passing at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
But the family’s cruelty didn’t end with the Eze’s death. In a shocking turn of events, his siblings, fueled by avarice, accused Ugoeze Ajiri of murdering her beloved husband. This accusation led to her arrest at her Port Harcourt residence by officers from Zone 9, Umuahia, acting in collusion with CSP Ifeyinwa Juliana Odo and Mr. Joel Nwokoro. For nine agonizing days, the innocent widow was held in a cell, her grief amplified by the injustice of the situation.
The ordeal didn’t stop there. While Ugoeze Ajiri languished in detention, the officers allegedly ransacked her home, the residence she shared with her late husband, demanding the title documents to all of the Eze’s properties. “These properties were labored for by myself and my husband!” the distraught widow reportedly cried, but her pleas fell on deaf ears.
Desperate for justice, Ugoeze Ajiri petitioned the Inspector General of Police, who ordered Zone 9, Umuahia, to transfer the case file to the Force Headquarters, Enugu Annex. However, Zone 9 has allegedly refused to comply, raising serious questions about the integrity of the investigation. CSP Ifeyinwa Juliana Odo and Mr. Joel Nwokoro are now facing disciplinary proceedings at the Police Service Commission, yet they reportedly boast of protection from high-ranking officers within Zone 9, where CSP Ifeyinwa has remained “untouchable” for years.
The depths of the alleged conspiracy run even deeper. In a desperate attempt to secure a favorable outcome, the family of the late Eze, along with CSP Ifeyinwa and Mr. Joel, allegedly sought and obtained an ex parte order from Magistrate Rex Chikezie at the Magistrate Court in Okpualangwa. This order, granted despite the court’s lack of territorial jurisdiction and without a substantive matter before it, has been condemned as a blatant abuse of power. The family then allegedly attempted to block the Force Headquarters from taking over the case by appealing to the Okpualangwa High Court, but their efforts were rebuffed.
Sources reveal that the late Eze, having witnessed the avarice of his siblings firsthand, explicitly forbade them from attending his funeral, citing their role in his suffering. The family is allegedly using the name of Dike Ajiri, a son born to the Eze’s divorced wife and who hasn’t visited Nigeria in 15 years, as a front for their actions.
Ugoeze Ajiri, under immense pressure, agreed to an autopsy on her late husband, stipulating a N500 million payment if no evidence of foul play was found. The family allegedly fled, refusing to honor the agreement. Zone 9 police have also reportedly ignored crucial evidence from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital regarding the Eze’s cause of death, focusing solely on seizing his assets. The widow was even forced to pay a staggering N2 million for bail after her wrongful arrest.
The actions of the late Eze’s siblings appear to be a calculated attempt to strip his immediate family of their inheritance, leaving them destitute. They continue to seek court orders, having been turned away by the Okpualangwa High Court, and are now appealing to the Ikwuano High Court. When the matter came up on Wednesday, the 18th of June, a case that was filed on the 16th, the motion for injunction was to be moved by their lawyer for another injunction, which was vehemently opposed by Ugoeze’s lawyer, Vitus C. Ohakosim, Esq. The judge then saw reason, agreed with Ugoeze’s lawyer, and adjourned the matter for the motion to be ripe for hearing.
The case of Ugoeze Chinwe Ajiri is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by widows and the devastating consequences of greed and corruption within families and institutions. It is a plea for justice, for accountability, and for the protection of the innocent from the machinations of the powerful.
The world watches, hoping that truth and righteousness will prevail in this heartbreaking ordeal.
