Mrs Tinubu empowers 250 persons living with disability with grants in Abia

250 persons living with disability from Abia State have been empowered with #200,000 recapitalisation grant to enhance their businesses through the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme.

The gesture was a part of the lunch of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme for Persons living with Disabilities.

Speaking at the launch of the programme at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia Abia State, the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said that the programme holds special significance as it coincides with the lnternational Day of Persons with Disabilities as it is being launched simultaneously across the 36 States of the federation including the federal capital territory, defence and police officers wives association.

Represented by the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, Senator Oluremi said that a truly inclusive society is built when we stand together, creating opportunities that empower everyone to contribute their unique gifts to our collective progress.

According to her, “today, the RHI will provide
the sum of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000) Business Recapitalization Grants to two hundred and fifty (250) Persons with Disabilities in each State and the Federal Capital Territory to support small business owners to recapitalize their existing businesses and strengthen their means of livelihood. Also, each state of the federation, the FCT, the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association will each receive fifty million naira (N50,000,000), to be distributed to the beneficiaries in their domain.

In total, nine thousand, five hundred (9,500) Persons with Disabilities across Nigeria will benefit from this programme, amounting to One Billion, Nine Hundred Million Naira (N1,900,000,000).”

Senator Oluremi emphasized that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity by ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind, especially those whose needs are often overlooked.

To the beneficiaries, she encourage them to make good use of this opportunity.

In his remarks, the chairman, Abia State Disability Commission, Mr David Anyaele said that the grant is not just financial support but an investment in dignity, independence, economic inclusion and recognition of the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit people with disabilities demonstrates everyday.

He thanked Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to break barriers limiting people with disabilities to reach their potentials and call on the federal government of Nigeria to emulate Abia State.
