Abia lawmaker empowers constituents with item Worth ₦2 billion

The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, says he is committed to the economic upliftment and prosperity of his constituents.

The lawmaker spoke in Ohafia on Thursday during the distribution of the empowerment materials worth over ₦2 billion to residents, as part of efforts to cushion economic hardship and improve livelihoods.

He said that although his core focus has largely been in education and healthcare, but the current intervention became necessary to assist families facing economic challenges.

According to him, “We know the importance of impactful empowerment initiatives in enhancing the economic wellbeing of the people, because one person that receives any of these items will use it to support his family.

“I believe that good leadership requires responsiveness to the needs of the people, especially in difficult times. So I appreciated our stakeholders for ensuring that the items were allocated to those most in need and urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials”.

“These empowerment initiatives forms part of our broader commitment to people-oriented representation, designed to place practical economic tools directly in the hands of constituents, which would stimulate grassroots economic growth, improve household income, and create sustainable opportunities”.

The lawmaker also expressed satisfaction in representing his constituency at a time when Governor Alex Otti is leading Abia State, noting that his efforts align with the Governor’s vision of delivering good governance.

He reaffirmed his dedication to policies and programmes that directly impact the welfare of his constituents while complementing ongoing development efforts across the state.

Some of the items distributed to beneficiaries including 50 motorcycles, 50 tricycle trucks, 30 mini buses, 100 sewing machines, 100 refrigerators, 100 air pressure machines, 100 generators, 100 grinding machines, and over 800 bags of rice aimed at supporting beneficiaries to establish sustainable sources of income.

Others are a grader and a payloader provided to facilitate the grading of feeder roads, a move targeted at improving rural access and boosting agricultural productivity within the constituency.

Also speaking the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Enger. Ikechukwu Emetu, commended Hon Osonwa for what he described as purposeful and people-centered leadership. He noted that providing individuals with the right tools empowers them to uplift themselves and their families.

He urged beneficiaries to see the empowerment as a seed for growth, emphasizing that such initiatives yield meaningful results when combined with hard work.
