As Otti Charges The Newly Elected Council Chairmen

Ebere Uzoukwa, Ph.D

The successful conduct of elections in Abia’s 17 Local Government Areas marks a significant milestone in the history of the New Abia administration. Governor Alex Otti and the New Abia administration deserve every commendation for supporting the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) in conducting credible polls, restoring democracy and purposeful leadership at the third tier of government in Abia State.

Abia people on the other hand also deserve accolades for choosing candidates with the capacity to deliver on their electoral promises which no doubt align with Governor Otti’s greater vision. The mandate of the newly elected chairmen and councillors is obvious and clear.

There is no gainsaying that these democratically recruited officials of the 17 Local Government Areas are expected to collaborate with other stakeholders to drive development and socio-economic growth in their respective Areas. They are also expected to be mindful of Governor Otti’s zero-corruption stance and hunger for grassroots development.

Their priorities should dwell on basic education, primary healthcare delivery, youth and women empowerment. They are also expected to promote peace, unity, and progress in rural communities working closely with the traditional rulers and security agencies.

As charged by the Governor, the newly inaugurated chairmen are equally expected to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability knowing that the people of Abia expect tangible results.

As Governor Otti continues to provide purposeful and transformational leadership under the New Abia mantra, the newly elected council shall consolidate these achievements with impactful projects and well-thought-out programs at the grassroots.

Governor Otti, no doubt, has within a short period demonstrated an uncommon commitment to rebuilding a State fatally bruised and underdeveloped. His approach to governance strictly anchored on transparency, development, and progress defines his preparedness and capacity to transform Abia into a model State in Nigeria.

The testimonies of Governor Otti’s performance is therefore a reminder to the new Abia elected council chairmen, their deputies and councillors on the need to align with the greater vision of Governor Otti to deliver and sustain development and socio-economic prosperity at the rural areas.
