ASEPA DGM lauds Ihejirika @70, says his contributions to Abia/Nigeria remains remarkable
The Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Umuahia Zone, Catchist Ambrose Jonah, has described former Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika, as a distinguished son of Abia State whose contributions to the state and the nation remain remarkable.
Jonah made the remarks while speaking with journalists shortly after a 70th birthday ceremony held in honour of the retired Lieutenant General at the International Conference Centre, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia.
According to him, Gen. Ihejirika has been “a wonderful father, brother and colleague to this state,” noting that his legacy of service continues to inspire many.
“My wishes for him are that he will live to a happy old age in good health of body, mind and soul. As we celebrate him today, so shall we continue to celebrate those who are meaningful to this state,” Jonah said.
Reflecting on Ihejirika’s tenure as Chief of Army Staff, the ASEPA DGM commended his developmental contributions, particularly the establishment of the Nigerian Army School of Languages in Abia State, which he said has positively impacted his local government area and added value to the state.
“He has been a wonderful personality to this state and Nigeria at large. During his period as Chief of Army Staff, he did well by bringing the Army School of Languages to Abia State. That has helped in developing that part of the state. He has a very good record during his tenure,” Jonah added.
Jonah also lauded the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for what he described as transformational leadership. He specifically referenced the recent commissioning of the reconstructed Omenuko Bridge, which had reportedly been in a state of disrepair for many years.
“The governor is doing wonderfully well. The Omenuko Bridge and the road had been abandoned for years, but he has come to change the narrative.
He promised to rebuild Abia, and he is fulfilling that promise. He is prepared for this office and is delivering on his mandate,” Jonah stated.
Describing Governor Otti as a “messiah” to the state, Jonah called on residents to continue supporting the administration’s rebuilding agenda.
“My prayer is that God will use him to totally transform Abia State. We must continue to pray for him and support him so that he can continue the good work he has started,” he said.
The birthday ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the state, who gathered to celebrate the retired Army chief’s life and contributions to national development.
