ASEPA reaffirms ban on indiscriminate burning/littering of refuse
As part of his efforts to keep Abia clean and healthy, the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, has reiterated that indiscriminate burning and littering of refuse are prohibited in the state.
The Deputy General Manager, ASEPA Umuahia Zone, Catchist Ambrose Jonah, disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in Umuahia the state capital.
He said that the governor has mandated the agency to make Abia the cleanest state in Nigeria, adding that the second half of the year focuses on continuous waste evacuation.
It could be recalled that Governor Otti recently organized a weeklong retreat for government appointees to review and evaluate the administration’s performance for 2025.
Jonah noted that the task centered on environmental hygiene, while calling on Abians to assist the government by bagging their refuse and disposing of waste appropriately.
According to him, street-to-street evacuation of wastes has commenced and urged residents to dump their waste in the situated buckets from 5pm to 6am.
He noted that ASEPA has embarked on a campaign against open defecation in Umuahia.
