Consistent farming is the only sure way out of food scarcity, insecurity

The commissioner for Agriculture and Rural development in Akwa Ibom State Dr Offiong Offor, has said Nigerians must go back to farming to reduce food insecurity in the Country.

She said agriculture has been an age long profession, adding that the practice must continue for individuals and households to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria.

Offor, made her views public shortly after receiving an award of excellence from the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike on Friday.

The award recipient lauded the University for her gaint strides at ensuring that food security is achieved in the country through researches.

The commissioner commended the vice Chancellor Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, and the university management for counting her worthy for the award.

She said, “I feel very humble about this recognition and I thank the university management and the Vice Chancellor, the committee that organized this event for recognizing the little things that we are doing in the society. I’m thankful to them all.

“I’m also thankful to the governor of my state for the privilege to serve in the state executive committee.

“This award is all about service to humanity generally and ability to practice what one have learnt in
practical terms to affect peoples life positively.

“What we are doing now is to set up as agricultural technology that would help us to step out of food scarcity and insecurity, improve our income and the economy generally”.
