Gov. Otti commends Bishop Onuoha for Media

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commended the President of Vision Africa Radio, Bishop Sunday Onuoha for sustaining their annual media training initiative for the past twelve years.

Gov. Otti spoke during the 12th edition of Vision Africa 2025 Media Institute Training with the theme “Image Makers: Shaping Culture, inspiring change through media”, held at Vision Africa Premises Umuahia said the media has become the referee in public discuss and  mirror through which Abians see their government, the state and themselves.

The Governor represented by the Commissioner For Information Prince Okey Kanu, noted that the present administration is not just building infrastructure but rebuilding the trust, integrity and confidence of Abians and made it known that the state is in need of those who will tell the real story instead of distorting it.

He stressed the need for the media to give narratives that will inspire confidence and not fear and urged the participants to go out and tell the true Abia story devoid of fake news.

The Governor assured that his administration will continue to work with media professionals in the overall development of the State pointing out that the state government believes in open government that engages, listens and communicates with the people .

Speaking earlier, the President of Vision Africa, Bishop Sunday Onuoha said the training creates the platform for Media Professionals to upgrade their skills to shape and secure a better future for the society.

Bishop Onuoha thanked Governor Alex Otti for his achievements within two years in office as well as his commitment in ensuring free press in Abia and charged the participants to use the training for the service of God and humanity

The Media training featured lectures from different Resource Persons while the participants were drawn from Media organizations and higher institutions.

Similarly, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti has charged Abia students to continue to explore for excellence to enable them actualize their future dreams.

Mrs Otti  who gave the charge at the Vision Africa Radio hall during the station’s 2024/2025 Schools debate prize presentation day in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, said this will inspire students to develop themselves academically.

The wife of the Governor, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment,  Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere  said the program is to promote education, intellectual discussion and  community engagement  as well as celebrate the power of knowledge, critical thinking and effective communication.

She further lauded the unwavering commitment of Governor Alex Otti’s administration in improving educational standards, and creating enabling environment for Abia students to thrive, as well as the President of Vision Africa Radio, Bishop Sunday Onuoha for making the  educational competition an annual event.

In their speeches, The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghaukwa and  her Basic and Secondary Education counterpart , Elder Goodluck Ubochi represented by the Director for scholarship, Mrs Stella Kelechi, commended the President of Vision Africa Radio for building the intellectuals in students and extolled Governor Otti  for giving education pride of place in the State.

Presenting an address, the President, Vision Africa Radio, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, disclosed that his mission  is to raise a responsible generation that will take over in all spheres of life, and  commended  Governor  Otti and his wife for their Impactful leadership and commitment to service in Abia.
