Governor Otti’s Monthly Media Chat and the Social Contract

Governor Alex Otti’s swearing-in on May 29, 2023, marked a significant turning point in Abia State’s history. It ushered-in an era of total reform and transformation. His election was a social contract with Abians, promising to rebuild and provide infrastructure, drive socio-economic development, and ensure prosperity. True to his word, Governor Otti has worked tirelessly to fulfill his campaign promises, demonstrating a high sense of responsibility and consciousness in ensuring developments are evenly spread across the three senatorial zones, with special focus on Aba and Umuahia.
One of Governor Otti’s most notable achievements is his commitment to infrastructure development. He kick-started his administration with the construction of nine roads in one day, a bold move that has transformed the state’s landscape. The collapsed and abandoned Port Harcourt Road in Aba is now being reconstructed by Julius Berger, with completion expected by February 2025. Other roads, such as Shallom Road, Old MCC Express Road, Umuimo Udeagbala, Jubilee Roads, and Cemetery Road, have been reconstructed, while solar-powered street lights have been installed to ensure safety and security on the constructed and reconstructed roads.
Beyond roads, Governor Otti has prioritized electricity, recognizing its critical role in driving economic growth. The Geometric Integrated Power Project, the first autonomous power plant in Nigeria, promises uninterrupted power supply to Aba and its environs. This project has received accolades from President Ahmed Tinubu and other stakeholders who praised Governor Otti’s leadership and commitment to transforming Abia State and also providing the requisite enablers for economic growth and entrepreneurship.
In the health sector, Governor Otti has retrofitted and equipped hospitals, including the Abia State General Hospital, Amachara, and the Abia State Specialist Hospital, Diagnostic Centre and Eye Clinic in Umuahia. He strengthening primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare, ensuring quality healthcare delivery to Abians.
Governor Otti’s monthly media chat, “Governor Speaks to Abians,” has been instrumental in fostering transparency and accountability. Through this platform, he provides updates on development programs, policies, and responds to questions and inquiries from Abians. This approach has endeared him to the people, demonstrating his dedication to the social contract.
The impact of Governor Otti’s leadership extends beyond infrastructure and healthcare. He has prioritized workers’ welfare, ensuring salaries and oensions are paid on time. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abia has expressed their appreciation for his commitment to workers’ rights.
As Abia State continues on the path of transformation, Governor Otti’s leadership remains a beacon of hope. His achievements have earned him recognition from various quarters, including the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who have commended his efforts in revitalizing the state. With his unwavering commitment to rebuilding, infrastructure development, security, education, and healthcare, Governor Otti is indeed rebonding the social contract that works for Abia people.
