Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), a prestigious private university in Abia State, would be graduating about 500 students during her 8th Convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2023.
At a Pre-convocation Press Briefing on Friday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, disclosed that the eight of the graduating students during the convocation ceremony slated to hold at the Goodluck Jonathan Auditorium of the university, would be graduating with First Class would given automatic employment, in addition to scholarship awards to study up to doctorate level.
Prof. Uwakwe, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) and Chairman, Ceremonials Committee of the University, Prof. Uwaoma Uche, further said that engaging the the eight brainy graduands was in line with the university’s tradition of absorbing students with good grades as Graduate Assistants, and alongside best graduating students, offer postgraduate scholarships up to Ph.D level to them.
Enumerating some milestones the University has recorded over the years, Prof. Uwakwe listed some of the GUU achiements to include some measures of global outlook with a mix of students from across all the geopolitical zones of the country and foreign countries such as the USA, Ukraine, Togo and Guinea Bissau, among others. He said that GUU products have been recording resounding testimonies of victorious exploits.
According to him, the first set of lawyers produced by GUU have graduated from the Nigeria Law School; their first set of Medical Doctors inducted, hosting of international conferences, organizing research and academic exchange programmes for dual Masters Degree in space science and Bachelor’s Degree programme in Data Engineering and Space Systems with People’s Friendship University in Russia.
He added that currently, some of their staff were engaged in overseas staff development training.
On infrastructure, the Vice Chancellor said there has been a rapid and remarkable development in the university as it has completed three ultra-modern hostel complexes, the College of Law Administrative Complex, College of Social and Management building, while the Teaching Hospital Complex was in progress.
He appreciated the state government, the host community and parents and guardians of their students for their assistance and cooperation so far and pleaded for its sustainance.
