Hon. Igwe Akuma Akwu Akwur Urges Abia State Government to Rescue Okamu Secondary School in Ohafia
The people of Okon-Aku community in Ohafia Local Government Area have raised an urgent alarm over the deplorable state of Okamu Secondary Commercial School, calling on the Abia State Government** to intervene without further delay.
Current images and eyewitness reports reveal a heartbreaking reality—dilapidated classroom blocks, broken furniture, leaking roofs, and an overall unsafe learning environment that has left both students and teachers in despair.
Hon. Igwe AkumaAkwu, a respected community leader, made a passionate appeal on behalf of the people, urging the government to come to their aid.
“Our children deserve better. Okamu Secondary Commercial School is not just a structure, it is the future of our community. As of today, July 19th, 2025, the condition of this school is a clear cry for help. We can no longer afford to ignore it,” he stated.
Community members lament that the school, once a beacon of educational excellence in the region, has been abandoned to rot—putting the future of countless students at risk.
They are now calling on Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Ministry of Education, and relevant agencies to prioritize the rehabilitation of the school as a matter of urgency.
“Education is a right, not a privilege,” one parent said. “We’re not asking for too much—just a safe, functional, and dignified place where our children can learn.”
The situation at Okamu Secondary Commercial School underscores the broader challenges facing rural education infrastructure in Abia State, and many hope this call will mark the beginning of meaningful government intervention.
