In a commanding demonstration of leadership and commitment to advancing gender equality, the wife of the President Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has led 36 governors wives in the historic signing of a compact with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) during the UNFPA Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Social Norms Summit.

The event held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, this significant event gathered First Ladies from across the country, each of whom, alongside Mrs Tinubu, signed the agreement to dismantle harmful social norms and tackle the widespread issue of gender-based violence.

Senator Tinubu’s pivotal role in this initiative reflects her profound dedication to fostering a safer and more equitable society for women and girls throughout Nigeria.

Among the esteemed attendees was the First Lady of Abia State, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, who joined her fellow First Ladies in signing this transformative agreement. The compact signals a united front, with influential leaders across the nation prioritizing the empowerment of women and girls.

Speaking to news men at the end of the event, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, reaffirming her dedication to the cause. According to her “This compact is a critical step in the right direction, providing us with a stronger platform to combat gender-based violence in our communities. She went further to state that through this partnership, we are empowered to break the silence, confront harmful practices, and create lasting change for women and girls across Nigeria.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the First Lady of Nigeria for consistently championing the rights and welfare of women across the nation, recognizing her as a leading figure in the ongoing efforts to uplift women in Nigeria.

Her remarks underscored the significance of this unified action, emphasizing the reinvigorated and collective effort, supported by the UNFPA, to combat gender-based violence across Nigeria.
