Niger Police arrests 713 crime suspects, prosecutes 680, investigating 33
The Niger State Police Command has announced a significant crackdown on crime, with the arrest of 713 suspects linked to major crimes in the state in 2024.
The crimes include culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, car theft, and unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Danmamman at a press briefing in Minna, 680 of the suspects have been prosecuted while 33 others are still under investigation.
He revealed that the police also rescued 37 kidnapped victims from various locations of the state throughout the year.
The CP attributed the success recorded to the adequate proactive measures emplaced, and especially effective partnership and engagement with critical stakeholders, such as the traditional institution, community leaders, labour unions, youth leaders, student leaders, professional bodies, PCRC and the community members.

“Nevertheless, the relationship and synergy among the security agencies in the state can never be overemphasized which has also helped Police Operations and Investigation to be more successful,” he further added.
Danmamman further revealed that part of the success story; includes the large number of exhibits, arms and ammunition and vehicles recovered from different suspects,

-3 AK-47 rifles
-4 locally made AK-47 rifles
-16 automatic pump action rifles
-1 English Baretta pistol
-9 locally made revolver guns/pistols
-2 locally made Baretta pistols
-5 locally made pistols
-2 other locally made guns
-1,205 ammunition of 7.62mm caliber
-Another 295 ammunition recovered from Tafa
-18 ammunition of 9mm caliber
-34 cartridges
-12 different categories of vehicles
-Dane guns, cutlasses, knives, saws among others.
