Otti development drive has transformed Isuikwuato says Dr Onyinye Rufus Obi

A board member of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority, Dr Onyinye Kay Rufus Obi, has commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for what she described as an unprecedented scale of development projects in Isuikwuato Local Government Area and across the state.

Speaking on Thursday at her country home in Isuikwuato during the Eluama Women’s Valentine Day gathering, Dr Rufus Obi said Abia State had not witnessed the level of infrastructure renewal currently underway under the present administration.

She said the women’s event was organised to reflect and extend the sense of inclusion and goodwill she believes the state government has shown to communities across Abia, particularly to women at the grassroots.

According to her, the Valentine programme is part of a long standing annual initiative aimed at supporting women in Eluama community, a tradition she said was inspired by the values of her late father, Pharmacist Rufus Obi, a well known businessman in Aba.

“When change is taking place, it is important to move with it so as not to be left behind,” she said. “We have never had it this good in Isuikwuato. And what is happening here is not isolated. If you go round the state, you will see the same transformation.”

Dr Rufus Obi pointed to visible changes in Umuahia and Aba, noting improvements in road networks, landscaping and general urban renewal. She added that Isuikwuato alone currently has six road projects being executed by the state government.

“That is remarkable,” she said. “As we are in the season of love, I wanted the women of Eluama to celebrate and to be aware that positive changes are taking place around us.”

Speaking ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the dentist by profession expressed confidence that voters in Isuikwuato would support Governor Otti for a second term, citing widespread approval of his performance.

She also disclosed plans for voter sensitisation programmes to encourage rural residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.

“I have not personally encountered anyone in Isuikwuato who is dissatisfied with the governor’s work,” she said. “Even members of opposition parties have acknowledged the impact of the projects, particularly road construction that has benefited their communities and properties.”

She added that the prevailing public mood reflected a sense of relief and optimism, which she likened to the biblical principle that good leadership brings joy to the people.

The event featured the distribution of gift items to women to mark the Valentine celebration.
