Police confirms beheading of 70-year-old community leader/ LP chieftain in Abia

The home branch chairman of Uturu Development Union, Uturu in Isuikwuato Local Government area of Abia State Mr Maduka Zachary, a
70-year-old native of Ezieke Akpukpa village was beheaded by yet to be identified men on Wednesday night.

It was gathered that the assailants
numbering about 10 wielded pump action guns, cutlasses, and several other weapons had shot him dead at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa Community.

The victim was reportedly dragged on the floor before he was finally beheaded and his head taken away by his killers.

The incident has left his family members, friends and relatives in a state of mourning and confusion.

Zachary was also the campaign director to the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency, Hon Amobi Ogah during the last general elections.

It was gathered that he was the head of the Uturu community Security outfit overseeing the security of the area.

The Police Pubic Relations Officer
in the state ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, has confirmed the incident in a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday.

She pointed out that Investigations are currently on going to unravel those behind the attack.

The statement read, “Mr. Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa Community.

“Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

“Tragically, they recovered Mr. Nmaduka’s lifeless body.
Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains was promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu”.
