Radio Presenter, Activist Ikechukwu Decries Neglect, Abuse of Men on Father’s Day

Johnson Ikechukwu, a renowned radio presenter with 104.1 FM Vision Africa Radio, Umuahia and a passionate advocate for men’s rights, has raised concern over what he described as the growing neglect and silent abuse of men in society, especially on occasions like Father’s Day.

Speaking during a special segment on his popular program, Ikechukwu highlighted that while mothers receive widespread celebration and recognition on Mother’s Day, fathers often do not enjoy the same level of appreciation.

He noted that many men silently endure various forms of abuse — emotional, psychological, and in some cases, physical, but societal expectations of masculinity prevent them from speaking out.

“Father’s Day should be a time to celebrate responsible fathers and positive male role models. Unfortunately, we see more focus on condemning absentee fathers while the efforts of good fathers go unnoticed. It’s painful that men are expected to be strong and unshaken, even when they are suffering,” Ikechukwu said.

The broadcaster and activist called on families, communities, and the media to do more in recognizing the sacrifices of fathers. He urged society to create platforms where men can openly share their struggles without fear of judgment or ridicule.

Johnson Ikechukwu, who is also a former player with White Heart Football Club, Minna, emphasized that achieving balance in celebrating both fathers and mothers will help build stronger families and healthier communities.
