Group Organizes AI Literacy Community Engagement Outreach in Odo-Ijesa, Osun State

In a rapidly evolving world where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we live, work, and connect, it is essential that no one is left behind. The AI Literacy for Everyday People Project is an initiative designed to make AI more understandable, practical, and safe for everyday Nigerians.

The project is supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation and implemented by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiatives, a youth-focused organization committed to promoting digital inclusion, skills development, and technology-driven social innovation. It also aims to ensure equal opportunities for young people and underserved communities across Nigeria.

In a keynote speech, the Project Lead, Mr. Oluwamuyiwa Olufemi Ajaja, emphasized that the impact of AI on society is rapidly increasing, with significant implications for the global economy and workforce.

He further highlighted that limited access to technology remains a major barrier preventing many community members in Osun State—especially those in rural areas and from lower socioeconomic backgrounds—from effectively engaging with AI advancements.

This funded Step-Down AI Literacy Training represents a significant step toward ensuring that community-based youth, adolescent girls and women, as well as persons with disabilities in Odo-Ijesa, Osun State, are not only included in AI conversations but are also meaningfully supported in their journey toward AI readiness and integration.

The AI Literacy Community Engagement Outreach successfully trained over 60 participants, including youths, older adults, adolescent girls and women, and persons with disabilities, in a one-day intensive workshop. The training equipped participants with practical AI skills and tools aimed at reducing misinformation and cyberbullying at the grassroots level.

The event featured practical, hands-on sessions where participants engaged with AI digital tools in real time. These sessions were facilitated by Mrs. Folakemi Ogunlade, Mrs. Olayinka Familusi, Ms. Temitayo Akinyede, and Mr. Adewumi Joseph.

In another session, His Royal Highness, Oba Olufemi Olayinka (the Olu-Odo of Odo-Ijesa), represented by Mr. Abimbola Omoniyi, commended the organizers for delivering impactful digital literacy programs in the community. Other community leaders in attendance included Mr. Gbenga Ajayi, Mr. Moses Micheal, and Olori Abosede Oni.

Overall, the engagement successfully achieved its core objective of increasing basic awareness and understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in everyday life.
