Eric Opah campaign organization dismisses reports of alleged disqualification
The campaign organisation of Abia APC governorship aspirant, Eric Opah, has dismissed reports alleging that he was disqualified from participating in the party’s governorship primary election scheduled for May 21, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director General of the Eric Opah Campaign Organisation, Charles Ogbonna, described the publication by an unnamed group as “panic-driven propaganda” allegedly sponsored by political opponents fearful of defeat at the polls.
According to the campaign team, the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress had cleared all three governorship aspirants from Abia State to contest in the primary election.
The organisation further stated that during the party’s pre-primary stakeholders’ meeting held at the new APC Secretariat in Abia, the State Working Committee confirmed that all governorship and House of Representatives aspirants successfully passed the screening process, with only one State House of Assembly aspirant reportedly failing the exercise.
The statement accused unnamed rivals of spreading false information in a bid to discourage Opah’s supporters from participating in the primary election.
“It is ridiculous that fear of defeat could drive some individuals into manufacturing propaganda aimed at deceiving supporters of Chief Eric Opah,” the statement read.
The campaign organisation urged APC members and supporters across the state to disregard the rumours, insisting that Opah remains fully in the governorship race.
