Abia community bans hard drugs, cultism, violence /criminal activities

Ebem Ohafia Community, in Ohafia Local Government Area of
Abia State, has banned the consumption of hard drugs, cultism, violence and other criminal activities in the area.
The ban came through the Ebem Ohafia Youths in collaboration with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU) and with the full backing of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.
The new security directives aimed at restoring peace and order in the community was contained in a statement by Publicity Secretary Ebem Ohafia Community Mr Ifeanyi Okali, dated January 13, 2026.
The community also banned the sale, use, and trafficking of hard drugs and illicit substances in Ebem Ohafia, adding that anyone found guilty will face stiff fines and disciplinary measures, regardless of status.
The statement read, “The community has also issued a final warning on cultism, directing all persons involved to renounce such activities or face severe community sanctions and prosecution.
“All criminal elements using Ebem Ohafia as a hideout are ordered to vacate the community immediately. Any indigene found harbouring such individuals will be held accountable.
“Furthermore, fighting with weapons, brandishing of firearms, and gunshots are strictly prohibited. Any offender will be handed over to security agencies, face heavy fines, and risk additional community sanctions”.
The community also resolved that Ndi Ikwu (compounds) shall be held responsible for defaulters within their jurisdictions, including suspension from hosting ceremonies where necessary.
In addition, traders along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Daily Market were warned against obstructing gutters, walkways, and free zones.
“All violations will attract immediate impoundment of goods.
“The Ebem Ohafia community calls on all residents and visitors to comply fully, as enforcement of these directives will be strict and uncompromising” Okali stated.
