Chimaobi Ogbundiogu of the Young Progressives Party ( YPP) and
Obinna Nwosu of the African Democratic party (ADC) on Monday slugged it out during the kick off of the 2023 Abia State Election Debate.

Both are contesting to represent the people of  Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency in the green chambers.

Other candidates absent from the debate are Obi Aguocha of the labour party(LP), RT. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Orji of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Engr. Ogbonnaya Ibeji Abarikwu of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon Obilo Ogbonna of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

During the debate, the YPP candidate, Chimaobi Ogbudiogu emphasized on the need to make bills that will be for the betterment of his people. He also  explained the need to attract infrastructure in Ikwuano/ Umuahia federal constituency. He also added that he will be focusing more on  infrastructure development than making bills because his people are suffering.

In his words: ” It’s not just about making bills. My people are suffering, I don’t know if you have been to Ikwuanor. Ikwuanor is a no motorable area, If you look at Umuahia south, they are neglected politically (and) in everything”.

On his part, the ADC candidate, Obinna Nwosu alinged that the people of Ikwuanor Umuahia federal constituency have been neglected and it calls for great concern. He also said if elected, he will effect the pay teachers policy.

“I want to push bills that will make our educational sector our top most priority, I want to see a society where education is prioritized”.

Obinna also said his focus is for the youths to be engaged and the plight of pensioners taking seriously.

The ADC candidate, Chimaobi in his position faulted Hon. Samuel Onuigbo. He said Onuigbo is currently representing Ikwuanor Umuahia federal constituency. He also opined  that  Hon. Samuel Onuigbo focused on bill making instead of the development of the area.

In his words: “You have to look at the pains of the people and look at how to pull them out of poverty.  Sam Onuigbo did a bridge , they awarded him a bridge in his village, when I studied the contract of the bridge, It was a contract of 50 million naira, that bridge is a death trap, it took me so much to cross that bridge,  I thought that the bridge was going to collapse.

“My main focus is how to help people out of poverty by creating jobs. If you open up a cocoa drying plant in Ikwuano, do you know how many people will be employed? If you have a rice plant in Ikwuanor do you know how many people will be employed. If you force the Chinese company to stop the extraction of kaolin from  Umuahia south and ask them to put a plant in Umuahia south do you know how many people will be employed”?
