Bende 2027: Group raises alarm over APC desperate plan To Sponsor Petition Against LP Candidate Dr Chima Anyaso

The Abia Solidarity Forum, a political pressure group, has raised concerns over an alleged plan to link a Labour Party aspirant for Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Chima Anyaso, to financial crime allegations.

The group, which made the allegation in Umuahia on Sunday, claimed that some political interests were planning petitions and media campaigns that could portray Anyaso as being under investigation by security and anti-corruption agencies.

Addressing journalists, spokesperson of the group, Chijioke Okwuoha, said the organisation had received information which, according to him, was being treated as an allegation and had not been independently verified.

“We have received credible information, which we presently treat as allegations, indicating that there are plans to misuse the credible names, processes and statutory powers of respected government institutions, including the EFCC, the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and other public agencies, for political purposes through unfounded allegations,” Okwuoha said.

He added that if the allegation was established, it could undermine public confidence in institutions responsible for law enforcement and the fight against corruption.

The group, however, said it was not opposed to lawful investigations of any individual, stressing that security and anti-corruption agencies should act on credible evidence and in accordance with due process.

It urged the agencies to maintain professionalism in handling any petitions they may receive, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the elections.
The forum also appealed to political stakeholders in Abia State to conduct their activities peacefully and avoid actions capable of creating tension in the state.

The group further alleged that Anyaso’s perceived support for Governor Alex Otti may have made him a target of political attacks. It called on the electorate in Bende Federal Constituency to assess aspirants based on their records, competence, ideas and commitment to public service.

The organisation also urged supporters of all political aspirants to remain law-abiding and allow democratic competition to take place peacefully.
