MOUAU Staff pass a vote of confidence on VC, Prof. Iwe, amidst alleged smear campaigns

The staff of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike,
have passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor
Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe,
amidst an alleged
social media smear campaigns against the VC.

A statement by the Public Relations officer in the University Dr. Ubadire Agua, on Wednesday stated that the vote of confidence was passed on Tuesday, during a meeting of all staff of the University with the Vice-Chancellor, which was held at the 1,600 capacity Modern Public Lecture Theatre in the University.

The statement added that vote of confidence came via a motion moved by the Director of MOUAU Business School (MBS), Prof. Michael C. Ekwe, and seconded by Dr. Ogechi Jubilant Umeh, while staff of the University raised a loud voice-vote to express their confidence in the Vice-Chancellor.

Agua disclosed that the staff took turns to express their feelings and commendation for his leadership style, openness, transparency and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the University since March 1, 2021.

The statement read, “Before the motion, Prof. Ekwe and Dr. Umeh, described Prof. Iwe as a man of peace and integrity, who had worked his heart out in pursuit of institutional peace and stability, and wondered why persons who do not understand how a university operates would allow themselves to be sponsored to smear his name on social media.

“Other staff who spoke at the meeting declared their solidarity with the Vice-Chancellor and advised him to remain focused until his last day in office”.

According to the Agua, Iwe had
earlier in his address to the staff, highlighted some of the achievements of his administration, numbering over 30, and declared that his administration has tried to execute projects with very limited resources and that it was by the hand of God that he recorded the achievements.

Also in a remark a staff Prof. Ike Nwachukwu, prayed for the successful completion of the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure and for a successor that would take the University to its next level of excellence.
