Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has vowed to support the synergy between the local government and the state Ministry of Health in the fight against malaria in the state.
Mrs Otti spoke in Apumiri Ubakala, headquarters of Umuahia South Local Government Area
during the 2025 World Malaria celebration stated that the event is “a beacon of hope” in Abia’s broader health reform efforts.
She added that that the fight against malaria not only signals a renewed commitment to control the disease but also growing momentum in grassroots health advocacy.
According to her strong leadership and community-driven participation, the fight to end malaria is no longer a dream, it is a plan in motion.
The event presented a vibrant show of unity and public health advocacy, the Abia State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Umuahia South Local Government Authority.
In an address Mayor Chinedu Enwereuzo, expressed appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for his groundbreaking policy that ensures free malaria testing and treatment throughout the state.
He recounted his recent town hall tour across Umuahia South’s ten wards, where he personally engaged with residents on the benefits of the new health initiative.
“This is more than a campaign, it’s a lifeline,” the Mayor said. “We must not take this opportunity for granted. Let us stay committed and eliminate malaria from our communities.”
An expert-led lecture underscored the shared responsibility of communities in deploying insecticide-treated nets and promoting early medical intervention.
The session emphasized that ending malaria requires sustained action from both government and citizens.

Mrs. Adaeze Emetu, Dr. Ngozi Azodoh, Special Adviser on Health to the Governor; and Rt. Hon. Engr. Ebenezer Ngozi, Leader of the Umuahia South Legislative Council, among others were present during the event.
