Trailer loses control, crashes into FMC Umuahia fence

A heavy-duty trailer loaded with iron rods has crashed into the perimeter fence of the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia the Abia State capital
in the early hours of Thursday.

It was gathered that crash occurred after the trailer reportedly lost compression while climbing a hill along the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Express Road.

The incident occurred near Finnbars Road, close to the Abia State High Court, resulting in a major traffic gridlock along the busy expressway.

The trailer driver who did not his name said the accident happened at about 2:00 a.m in the morning.

He explained that the vehicle lost compression while ascending the hill, causing it to roll backwards uncontrollably before crashing into the fence of the Federal Medical Centre.

The accident left the trailer obstructing part of the Federal Highway leading to heavy traffic congestion during the morning rush hour as motorists struggled to navigate the affected section.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation of casualties, while efforts were ongoing to evacuate the trailer and restore the free flow of traffic.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and consider alternative routes where possible until the obstruction is cleared.
