Governor Otti Inaugurates LP Campaign Council, Charges Members To Drive 2027 Campaign From Polling Units

Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has inaugurated the Labour Party (LP) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, charging its members to work with party structures and stakeholders at the grassroots to ensure victory for the party.

Inaugurating the Council on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Governor Otti said the appointment of members was a call to service and not an opportunity for anyone to assume superiority over others.

The Governor urged members to consider themselves as best among equals,” stressing that the responsibility before them was to work collectively for the success of the party.

The Governor noted that everything about political campaigns is structured around political parties, as independent candidacy is not yet allowed in Nigeria. He therefore directed that all pro-groups of the party, including Abia Arise and the various campaign councils of individual candidates, must work together.

“Candidates must work with the leadership of the party and other stakeholders to achieve the objectives,” Gov. Otti said.

“You must work with the party’s pro-groups. The leadership for this campaign goes beyond people sitting here. Everybody is involved,” the Governor stated.

Governor Otti also urged candidates to constitute their own campaign councils, saying such structures would strengthen the party and help it achieve better results.

The State Chief Executive explained that while the State Campaign Council would provide overall coordination, candidates and grassroots structures must equally take responsibility for mobilising support in their respective areas.

Governor Otti charged the Council to ensure that the 2027 campaign is issue-based, noting that the approach would be different from that of 2023. He stated that while the 2023 campaign was largely characterised by promises, the 2027 campaign should focus more on issues, achievements and programmes that matter to the people.

The Governor cautioned members against allowing opponents to distract them with propaganda, urging them to remain focused and communicate the party’s message effectively.

Governor reiterated that his administration has provided a peaceful and open environment for political activities, warning that violence will not be tolerated; “If you get involved in Political Violence, You are on Your Own”

“We have made this place peaceful and open. Violence will not be entertained. We are not going to tolerate violence,” Gov. Otti stated.

He added that security agencies have been directed to provide a level playing field for all political parties and their candidates to campaign freely without intimidation or violence.

Governor Otti reminded members that their appointment was not an opportunity to exercise power over others, but a call to service. He disclosed that the Campaign Council would be complemented by a Campaign Advisory Council, to be Chaired by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.

Gov. Otti expressed confidence that with effective coordination, grassroots mobilisation, issue-based campaigning and cooperation among members and stakeholders, the Labour Party would achieve better results in the 2027 elections, urging members to return to their wards and LGAs to build effective grassroots structures from the polling units.

Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, the Director-General of the Council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, assured Governor Otti that the Council would work diligently to meet and exceed expectations, pledging to deploy their collective experience and commitment to secure victory for the Labour Party.

Rt. Hon. Agwu described the assignment as a call to service for the people of Abia, stressing that the campaign is not about individuals but about consolidating the achievements of the Otti administration and building a stronger future for the State.

In an interview, the Director of Publicity and Spokesman of the Council, Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, assured that members would work collectively to deliver on their mandate, noting that Governor Otti is a marketable candidate.

“His Excellency is a good product to sell. We know that His Excellency is going to be re-elected; ours is just to provide institutional support and framework to carry out the campaigns.

“There is no space for violence. The campaigns will be issue-based. We shall resist any attempt to drag us down to that level. We shall run an issue-based campaign that reflects the personality of His Excellency,” Barr. Ememanka stated.

He thanked God for the opportunity to serve and expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the assignment.
