Abia Govt vows to prioritize awareness on environmental sanitation
Abia State government has said it will not relent in its resolve to encourage residents of the state to maintain a clean environment.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, who disclosed this on Saturday shortly after monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Umuahia the State capital, said that a mobile sanitation court in markets and other relevant places to enforce compliance of sanitation exercise.
The Commissioner was responding to a complaint of non compliance to the exercise by some traders at the Orie-Ugba market made by the Coordinator, Abia State Command of War Against Indiscipline,WAI, Mr Okwum Victor, noted the improvement by the traders and restated that the government would give the traders one month grace, to improve the further on the exercise.
He said the court when established, would be charged with the prosecution of sanitation defaulters in various markets and other places in the state.
The Commissioner advised traders to stay at home and clean up their areas, whereby they would not comply with total adherence of not doing business during the period of the exercise.
No fewer than Seventy defaulters were arrested and charged to the Abia State Sanitation Court in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
