Bourdex clinches LP ticket for Abia North Senatorial race, hails Otti over successful primary election

The Labour Party in Abia State has affirmed its consensus candidates across the 17 local government areas, with aspirants ratified after pulling wide support in primaries held in the five LGAs of Abia North Senatorial District.

Reacting to the outcome, the LP flag bearer for Abia North Senatorial district election Chief David Onuoha Ogba Bourdex
expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the primary election, describing the exercise as a milestone in the party’s democratic journey in the state.

“What took place across the 17 local government areas and the wards of our state is not merely a primary election exercise. It is a demonstration of political maturity, party discipline and collective responsibility.”*Labour Party Affirms Consensus Candidates in Abia, Candidate Says Responsibility, Not Victory.

He explained that the party, under Governor Alex Otti, opted for consensus to promote unity and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Consensus is one of the legitimate democratic processes recognized by our party’s constitution and the Electoral Act. It is a process through which party members, stakeholders, leaders and aspirants collectively agree on individuals best positioned to carry the party’s banner,” he said.

The candidate viewed the affirmation as a call to duty rather than a personal win.

“I do not see today’s affirmation as a personal victory. I see it as responsibility – a responsibility to justify the trust placed in me, to provide quality representation, to support the transformational vision of Governor Alex Otti, and to work tirelessly for the progress of every community across Abia North,” he said.

He commended Governor Otti for providing leadership that prioritized party unity over internal conflict, noting that the Labour Party in Abia had avoided the divisions and litigation plaguing parties elsewhere.

“At a time when political parties across the country are struggling with division, litigation and internal conflict, the Labour Party in Abia has demonstrated that unity can be achieved when leaders place the collective interest above personal ambition,” he said.

He also thanked the party faithful and aspirants who stepped aside for the sake of unity, saying “history will remember your sacrifice.”

Bourdex said the focus had now shifted from the primaries to the 2027 general elections, with the goal of consolidating the gains of the current administration and extending the “New Abia” vision to all levels of governance.

“Today we affirm our candidates, tomorrow we mobilise our people. And in 2027, by the grace of God, we shall secure another resounding mandate for progress as we return His Excellency Dr Alex Otti for a second tenure,” he stated.
