Eric Opah emerges Abia APC governorship candidate

One of the frontline governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Eric Opah, has emerged as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election following a decisive victory at the party’s primary election.

The primary, which was held at the APC secretariat in Umuahia on Thursday night, saw Opah secure a commanding 126,977 votes to defeat his closest rival, Henry Ikoh, who polled 5,905 votes.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Abia State Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Bartho Lalong, commended party members and aspirants for maintaining peace and order throughout the exercise.

Lalong described the primary as transparent, peaceful, and reflective of the democratic spirit within the party, noting that the high level of discipline displayed by delegates and supporters contributed to the smooth conduct of the election.

Following the declaration, Opah was presented with the party’s certificate of return, officially confirming him as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Abia State.

The outcome is expected to reshape the political landscape in the state as the APC prepares to challenge for power in the next electoral cycle.
