IBEKU YOUTHS CALL FOR THE RELEASE OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU

The members of the Ibeku Youth Association have made a strong case for the unconditional release of their kinsman and detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS custody.

In a communique jointly signed by the National President Ibeku Youth Association, Mr. Martins Chiedozie Nwosu and the National Secretary, Mr. Chibuzor Onwukamuche and read to the press by the National President at Isieke, Ibeku ancestral home, Umuahia, the group expressed sadness that one of her own has long been detained despite court rulings to release him.

“That it saddens our hearts, as peace loving and law-abiding citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that one of us – our own dearest brother – Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has long been detained and incarcerated at the detention of the Directorate of State Security (DSS), Abuja, despite Court’s ruling to release him, at least on bail. ”

They maintained that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu only stood for truth, equity and justice for the Igbo tribe and the Eastern part of Nigeria, just like Nelson Madiba Mandela of South Africa, arguing that his incarceration has become unbearable to his kinsmen, adding that his detention has brought insecurity to the Eastern part of Nigeria.

The youths pointed out that Sowore and Igboho, who were also charged with similar offences have all been released and discharged from the charges, by the Federal Government of Nigeria and appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend the same gesture to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. They stressed that , that would strengthen their hope in the verse of the National Anthem that says that “though tribe and tongue may defer, in brotherhood we stand” adding that it would restore peace in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

“We remind our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, that Messrs. Sowore, and Igboho, who were also charged with similar offences have all been released and discharged from the charges, by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Hence, we pray our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to extend this same gesture to our brother- Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,

“To strengthen our hope in the verse of our National Anthem that says “… though tribe and tongue may defer, in brotherhood we stand”; and most especially, to restore peace in the Eastern part of Nigeria, and strengthen our hope in one Nigeria.”

The group, while calling on governor Alex Otti, Senator Austin Akobundu (Senator Representing Abia Central) and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu (Deputy Speaker Federal House of Representative) to join in the league of those who are working for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, also implored Ohaneze Ndigbo to advice Reno Omokiri to always sensor his utterances on the issues concerning the release of Mazi Kanu. They urged politicians not to politicize the detention of our dear brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and objectively work towards his unconditional release from the DSS detention.
