The Abia State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has formally issued a vote of commendation to Governor Alex Otti, citing what it described as measurable progress across key sectors of governance and public life.

Addressing journalists on Monday in Umuahia the state the Publicity Secretary Hon. Godwin Adindu, alongside Assistant Publicity Secretary, Chief Obinna Ibe, said the position of the group was based on observable developments within the state rather than political alignment.

Adindu stressed that the organisation’s position was non partisan, noting that the commendation reflects a broader commitment to recognising leadership that delivers tangible outcomes.

He explained that the group reserves the right to acknowledge individuals of Igbo origin who demonstrate commitment to public service, regardless of political affiliation.

He said, “We have closely monitored developments in Abia State over recent years and observed improvements in critical sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, civil service administration and transportation.”

“It highlighted what it described as deliberate policy actions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

Among projects referenced was the Umuahia Central Terminal, identified as a significant addition to the state’s transport infrastructure. The organisation also noted ongoing urban renewal efforts in Aba, widely regarded as a commercial hub in the South East, stating that such interventions have enhanced the city’s economic relevance.

In the area of public administration, Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledged reforms within the civil service, particularly the regular payment of salaries and pensions, which it said has contributed to improved workforce morale and stability.

The group further pointed to initiatives aimed at strengthening the business environment, including policies designed to encourage trade and industrial activity. It noted that such measures have contributed to improving the ease of doing business within the state.

Cultural promotion also featured prominently in the organisation’s assessment. It referenced the establishment of a Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, as well as policies encouraging the use of indigenous attire among public officials and the inclusion of the Igbo language in the secondary school curriculum. These, it said, reflect efforts to preserve and promote cultural identity while supporting economic opportunities linked to the creative sector.

While reiterating that its commendation does not constitute a political endorsement for future elections, the organisation described the recognition as a morale booster intended to encourage sustained focus on people centred governance.

It added that it would continue to acknowledge individuals and leaders contributing positively to the development and representation of Igbo interests within Nigeria and beyond.

The statement underscores a broader expectation for accountability and performance in public office, positioning civic and cultural organisations as active stakeholders in governance discourse.

Also, the development highlights the role of socio cultural organisations in evaluating governance and shaping public discourse, while reinforcing the importance of performance based recognition in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
