Arochukwu Gears Up For Eze Aro IX’s 2nd Coronation Anniversary
Arochukwu Kingdom in Abia State is set for a grand five-day celebration to mark the second coronation anniversary of His Eminence, Engr. Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, Eze Aro IX.
The festivities, scheduled to run from July 22 to July 26, 2026, are being organized by the Royal Palace in conjunction with Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide.
Eze Aro IX emerged as the ninth Eze Aro on October 18, 2023, after certification by the kingmakers. He was later presented with a Certificate of Recognition and Staff of Office by the Abia State Government on January 26, 2024, confirming him as a First-Class traditional ruler.
His enthronement was celebrated with a world-class ceremony in July 2024. The first anniversary in July 2025 had in attendance Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, traditional rulers, business leaders, academics and foreign dignitaries.
According to Dr. Azubike Okoro, Chairman of the Publicity Team, the anniversary will open on July 22 with an Open-Air Crusade and Medical Outreach at Aggrey Primary School, Ibom Village.
The theme for this year’s celebration is inspired by the legacy of Mary Slessor in Arochukwu. In line with that, the Mary Slessor Library Project will be launched on July 23.
Also on July 23, a Coronation Anniversary Lecture and Dinner will hold at Alpha Plus Hotel, Amuvi. At the event, Eze Aro IX’s lecture delivered at the University of California, Berkeley in May 2026, titled “Reclaiming African Civilizational Voices: The Arochukwu Renaissance and the Future of Indigenous Knowledge in a Global Information Age,”_ will be reviewed by scholars including Mazi Ernie Onwumere, Dr. Oji Ogbonnaya Oji and Dr. Azubike Okoro.
July 24 will be dedicated to courtesy visits and a royal audience, where Arochukwu diaspora groups and representatives of the 19 Aro homeland villages will pay homage to the monarch.
The climax comes on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Arochukwu Civic Centre, Oror Village. Mazi Barr. Uche Okoro, Chairman of the National Coronation Anniversary Celebration Council, said the event will be chaired by Mazi Stephen Okafor Obiora and will feature cultural performances.
Eze Aro IX is expected to deliver a major state-of-the-kingdom address, reviewing his two years on the throne and unveiling plans for the kingdom.
The celebration will end on Sunday, July 26, with a Thanksgiving Service at 10:00 a.m. at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Amannagwu.
Also Mazi Dozie Udensi, President-General of Nzuko Arochukwu Worldwide, said neighbouring communities have pledged to join the celebration. He urged Arochukwu indigenes at home and abroad, as well as friends of the kingdom, to attend.
“We seize this opportunity to invite all sons and daughters of Arochukwu Kingdom, our neighbouring communities, Aro diaspora communities, and our friends across the world, to join us in celebrating our revered monarch as he marks his second year on the throne,” he said.
Organizers say thousands are already preparing to take part in the anniversary.
